Midland Trace Project Picks up Pace

A committee will work with engineers to plan a pathway linking Westfield to the Monon Trail. Sweat Westfield Town Council members Monday voted 6- 0 to form a committee for the Midland Trace Trail project’s first phase. Representatives from Washington Township and the town of Westfield will serve on the committee, Town Council President Andy Cook said. The project involves about 6 miles of trails that would run through downtown Westfield and link to the Monon Trail. According to rough estimates, the project would cost about $8 million, Washington Township Parks and Recreation Director Melody Sweat said. Friends of the Midland Trace Trail members are hoping Washington Township and the town of Westfield will work together to bond the project for funding, Sweat said. Three bridges make up most of the project’s estimated cost, Sweat said. Bridges are planned to cross over U.S. 31, Cool Creek and another small creek west of U.S. 31. The trail would extend from Gray Road as far west as Ditch Road. >READ MORE:
